SCOPE OF WORKSThe project involved the renovation and extension of a heritage-listed residence, requiring careful planning and construction to comply with strict heritage conservation requirements. Significant structural works were undertaken while preserving key heritage elements, including sections of the existing roof that were required to remain in place despite the removal and reconstruction of much of the supporting structure below. This necessitated extensive temporary steelwork and propping systems to safely support the retained portions of the building during excavation, concreting and new wall construction.
Additional challenges arose from integrating new construction with existing heritage fabric, including walls that were significantly out of plumb and affected by rising damp due to the absence of original damp-proofing measures. Careful detailing and remediation works, including chemical damp-proof course injection and waterproofing systems, were implemented to address these issues while ensuring a seamless transition between the existing and new elements. The result is a successful blend of heritage preservation and contemporary construction, delivering a modernised home while retaining its historic character.
